Standard Hourly Rate

One of the most frustrating aspects of hiring an attorney, for many clients, is the inability of the attorney to provide a concrete answer to an important question: "How much will this cost?" Because each case is nuanced, and due to the nature of legal proceedings (there are many other actors and variables in addition to the client and their own attorney), it is impossible to nail total cost down at the beginning of a case.

Like most attorneys, I require an up-front deposit which is placed into a trust account and withdrawn, as-earned, at my competitive hourly rate. The amount often approximates my initial estimate of how much your case may cost and varies according to the details and complexities of the known issues. If the legal services you need end up costing less than this amount, you promptly receive a full refund of the remaining funds. If it appears your case will cost more than this initial deposited amount, additional funds will need to be deposited in accordance with our individual written Fee Agreement, which is discussed in detail during an initial consultation.

Unbundled Services (Limited Scope Representation)

Some matters can be handled on an "unbundled" basis, wherein we agree in advance that I will provide limited rather than comprehensive services. For example, in a divorce, my services could consist solely of the drafting of a property settlement agreement. Please note that unbundled services are only recommended if you could not otherwise afford any legal representation and that some matters (such as contested custody) do not lend themselves well to such an approach. We can discuss the suitability of such an arrangement at your consultation.
